In 1887, he removed to Glasgow as Professor of Church History; he had also been appointed in 1886 to a chaplaincy to Queen Victoria. In 1898, he became Principal of the University, succeeding Joh Caird. He was Moderator of the General Assembly in 1894, and its Principal Clerk from that year until his death on the 13th of January 1907. William Carstares (also Carstaires) (1649 1715), the subject of this book, was aScottish clergyman, born at Cathcart, near Glasgow. Condition: The binding is tight and firm. There is some wear to the extremities, including some bumping and rubbing. The front inner hinge is strained. Internally the pages are bright and generally clean, with the occasional spot or handling mark. Overall the condition of the book is very good..
