About This Item

Freiburg im Breisgau: Augustinermuseum, 1987. First Edition, First Printing. Stiff Wraps. Very Good. 74pp. illus. 21cm. Squarish 8vo. Softcover. Perfectbound red wraps. Book Condition: Wear to the extremities with salt and pepper chipping along the edges of covers. Text block and all plates in pristine condition. Profusely illustrated, including over 20 full color plates. Catalog for an 1987 Exhibition of the artist's work at the Augustinermuseum. An extraordinary copy in that the artist has affixed what seems like a white pre-adhesive shipping label onto the title page and then executed an original drawing in charcoal, signed to the lower left corner. Similar treatment to next page but instead of a drawing, a warm inscription signed and dated. [Ausstellung 24. Juli bis 16. August 1987, Schwarzes Kloster, Freiburg i. Br.]. We've included a bit of the artist's Wikipedia page below, pardon the clumsy translation from the original French. "Son of Marguerite Dupont and Célestin Perraudin, shoemaker, Wilfrid Perraudin left with his parents for Paris in 1914. Passionate about insects, he will meet Raoul Dufy who is himself an entomologist . In 1925, he was admitted to the National School of Decorative Arts in Paris in the studio of Raoul Dufy, who had recognized his talent as a draftsman and gave him private lessons. He became a designer in a natural science institute, produced illustrations for children's magazines and produced industrial and technical drawings in Marcel Bloch's factories, while continuing to paint. At the beginning of 1930, Wilfrid Perraudin carried out his military service in the Near East, notably in Lebanon and Syria , without ever having used a weapon. He conducts scientific and entomological research, and meets Robert Beauvais , who becomes a friend. In 1940 , Marcel Bloch's factories were requisitioned and Perraudin was recruited to the STO to work in Germany as a set painter in a German film firm. It is there that he will meet his future wife. After the Liberation, they returned to France and got married. He will do food work for a while: illustrations for children's books (Jambore collection, treasure hunts), posters, drawings for the fashion house Dior , etc. In 1952 , he held a post as professor of visual arts at the French lycée in Friborg . There, he will be able to express all his art and be recognized as an artist. A first major exhibition took place in Aachen in 1955 . He produced many Stations of the Cross and mosaics for German churches. This artist is also a man of science, since he inventoried new species of wasps, particularly in Corsica. Note that insects bear his name. He will be rewarded for all of his work by the French Academy which awarded him the vermeil medal in 1996 . After the death of his wife Hildegarde Perraudin, he will continue to paint, sharing between Marbourg and Majorca , coming in the meantime to discover his hometown in 2002 . He died in Palma de Mallorca and was buried next to his wife in Friborg . Public collections In Germany Buhl , church of the Neusatzeck monastery: mosaics, 1979-1980; Dortmund , Saint-Henri church: glass walls, 1965-1967; Hamm , Saint-Laurentius church: stained glass windows, 1976-1978; Hegne , monastery church: mosaic in the choir, 1963; Hinterzarten , church: glass walls, 1962-1963 Hugstetten , near Freiburg im Breisgau , Church of St. Gallus: stained glass, 1960 and 1968; Lörrach : Saint-Pierre church: Wall of Light , monumental concrete canopy, 1965;.
