About This Item
Milwaukee: The Bruce Publishing Company, 1940. Hardcover. 8vo. Orange cloth with blue lettering and pictorial stamping, pictorial dust jacket. vi, 283pp. Numerous illustrations. Near fine/very good. Faint age toning and foxing to endpapers only; mild jacket edgewear and bit of rubbing. A tight, attractive first edition of these (to cite front flap copy) "informal little sketches which give intimate glimpses into the home and social lives of thirty-five North American wild birds." A Wilcox & Follett reprint edition of 1947 is often mistaken for the true first -- but this 1940 charmer is it. Rather uncommon in a decent jacket.
