About This Item

New York: Duell, Sloan and Pearce, 1962. Hardcover. 8vo. Orange cloth with gilt spine lettering. xi, 146pp. Very good. Spine faintly sunned, else tight and internally near fine. Nice first edition of this study by the "Newsweek" magazine medical editor (1941-61) and author of several medical books (1892-1982), inscribed and signed large and bold in blue ink on front flyleaf: "For Bob Malott, / whose father / tells me, is / 'always tired' / now, come out / of it, Bob -- / Marguerite / Clark." From the library of Robert Malott (1926-2018), noted Chicago businessman and CEO of FMC Corporation, Republican politico and philanthropist. The "father" Clark refers to is Deane W. Malott (1898-1996), educator and at this time president of Cornell University (1951-63).
