Hardcover. 8vo - 22.5 x 15 cm.; xxvi - 307 pp. Wine red cloth over boards with gilt lettering on the spine and the front board. Illustrated with 23 black and white plates, one of which is the frontis piece, a map of the abbeys in the British Isles. All plates are printed on a coated paper. Seven appendices, a 3 page bibliography and lastly a 9 page index. The library markings are the usual and neatly done. Both the front and back end paper hinges have the beginnings of small tears though are still very sound as is the entire binding. The interior is otherwise clean. The spine is quite faded and the fore corners of the boards along with the spine tips show mild wear. A clear and removable archival cover has been fitted. .
