About This Item

New York: Boni & Liveright, 1926. Foreword by Allen Tate, with Tate's name spelled correctly (it was incorrectly spelled "Allan" in the first edition, first printing). The entire first printing consisted of 500 copies, 50 of which were sent out to reviewers before the mistake was caught. The title page was quickly reset and the revised pages tipped in by hand in the 450 remaining copies. Small 8vo. 58pp. Dark blue, spine covered cloth stamped in gilt, over brown marbled boards. CONDITION: Spine gilt dull, but readable, former owner's bookplate on front pastedown, his signature on front flyleaf, else a clean, square, tightly bound, sharp-cornered Near Fine copy, lacking dust jacket. White Buildings contains many of Crane's best poems, including "For the Marriage of Faustus and Helen", and "Voyages", a sequence of erotic poems. They were written while he was falling in love with Emil Opffer, a Danish merchant mariner. . First Edition, Second Printing. Hard Cover.
