Full calf with six spine compartments between gilt rules. Front fixed endpaper bears former owner's name: E.J. Deane. At head of title page is inscription: G.A. Finch 1807. In Good+ Condition: one vertical crack down spine; front board detached but present; back joint starting, but stitching is solid; small amount of leather lacking at ends of spine; frontispiece map and one other engraving each have a small repair; otherwise plates are clean and solid; text is clean and bright. A scarce copy of this fictional "tour" of Asia Minor and the Greek islands, based by the author on actual travel accounts of the area.

This is the first post-war book in the 'Tim' series and the first to be designed in the smaller 4to format. Additionally, at the request of Oxford University Press's US department, Ardizzone changed the character of the ship's cook from a black man to a white man (Alderson p. 72). (4.6 x 3.6 inches). 8pp, plus publishers green wraps, printed in black to the front panel with title, publisher and woodcut illustration. Unsewn but with the later addition of a pin to keep it all together. Each page with one or two, a total of ten, woodcuts and text printed below. A few creases to the page edges but overall a very good example of this rare edition. ---- No copy of this edition listed on Worldcat or Copac. ---- Fairburn was located at this address from 1820 to 1842.- P.A.H. Brown. London publishers and printers. p. 65. ---- The Osborne collection in Toronto has a similar edition, dated 1820 and published by Fairburn, that it records as being illustrated by Smeeton.

Lovely unmarked royal blue cloth with black lettering to spine, b/w frontispiece by Louis Ward (who also designed the dustwrapper), VG+/Fine copy in VG complete unclipped dustwrapper, just a few closed tears and rubs at corners, a little crushed/rubbed at spine ends - a delightful unfaded copy of a very scarce title, especially in its nice original dustjacket.

I have only been able to locate three other copies of this book in this country, one in the University of Louisville Library, one in the Florida State Library, and one in my own library that I am offering in a separate listing. However, there might be some copies in private hands. "Sunday Chatterbox" is an oversized children's book, measuring 7 5/8 by 10 inches. The book is unpaginated. It is in Good+ condition. The stories, poems, and songs for children are both secular and religious (bible stories). So why is this collectable? Not only due to its rarity, but because of the 90 gorgeous pen-and-ink drawings found throughout. (I suspect that other copies no longer exist because they've been cut up and their illustrations sold as individual prints.)
