Johan Swinnen studied photography, film and video at the Hogeschool Sint-Lukas Brussels, cultural sciences at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel and art history at the Universidad de La Laguna, where he obtained his doctorate cum laude in art sciences (1998). He was merger coordinator of the Hogeschool Antwerpen, founding chairman of the Higher Institute of Fine Arts (HISK) and instigator of the Master in Conservation and Restoration at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp. He is currently senior lecturer in contemporary art history at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel and professor at the Hogeschool Antwerpen, as well as a regular guest lecturer at the Université de la Sorbonne Nouvelle ?
