Classic children’s tale by Susan Coolidge (Sarah Chauncey Woolsey) of twelve-year-old Katy Carr, headstrong tomboy who becomes paralyzed from the waist down after falling from a swing in the family’s front yard but soon becomes the neighborhood’s most popular and lovable resident despite her handicap. First of the "Katy Did" series of children’s books by Coolidge, originally published in 1872 by Roberts Brothers and republished here in 1960 by Spring Books of London as part of the Early Reader Series of classic stories retold in simpler language for younger readers. Very Good Plus in charmingly illustrated color boards and Very Good original dust jacket of identical design that has a single small chip in the blank area at the uppermost extremity of the spine panel, not affecting titles or graphics. Clean, crisp, and very bright, no ownership signatures or any other markings of any kind.

Synopsis

What Katy Did is a children's book written by Susan Coolidge, the pen name of Sarah Chauncey Woolsey. It follows the adventures of Katy Carr and her family, growing up in midwestern America in the 1860s. Katy is a tall untidy tomboy, forever getting into scrapes but wishing to be beautiful and beloved. When a terrible accident makes her an invalid, her illness and recovery gradually teach her to be as good and kind as she has always wanted.
