Lee and Stonewall Jackson are mixed with the black mammys' in her life. Then, a doctor friend introduces her to the son of his old friend...General Pickett. When she was told by a friend she should marry a Cavalry man instead of one from the Confederate Infantry she attempted to defend her choice. While others thought she should have a Cavalry man like Jeb Stuart, her heart was set on General Pickett. The section on the preparation for marriage reflects the life of the upper class southern belle. She discusses her husband's comments on the difficulties of the soldier's during the cold spell when General Lee prevented them from burning wood that the Yankees might see. One of the fascinating books from the viewpoint of the Southern aristocratic lady. Bound in light blue cloth lettered in gilt, spine lettering and top edge gilt, some finger soiling, light wear to corners. A very nice copy.
