Hattiesburg, Miss.: [The Author] The Book Farm, January, 1939. . 8vo, self-wrappers, front printed Heartman (1883-1953), a German emigr was a pivotal figure in the Americana, African-American Studies and bibliographical fields. He authored one of the first catalogued on African Americans and made important contributes to many of the major collections iof the period. His Book Farm was a play on George Ripley's Brook Farm, for Heartman's ambition was to start a Utopian community based on Ripley's ideals. He moved often, from New York and New Jersey to New Orleans, to Biloxi, Mississippi.
