New York: Farrar & Rinehart, 1931. Hardcover. 431p. Inscribed, signed and dated Nov 16, 1931 by Sinclair to Sam Marx (presumably 'Samuel Marx,' who was working as a story editor at MGM in 1931 (he went on to become a producer there). With the stamp of the Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Culver City Library to the bottom page edges and near the bottom of random pages throughout the book. The novel was, in fact, acquired by MGM and, as Ahouse drolly notes "was released as a thoroughly denatured film in the spring of 1932." Significant fading to blue cloth along spine, lesser fading to all edges of boards. No dj. *AhouseA47a. Sinclair's novel about temperance and regret at the evident failure of prohibition.
