A very good book that has mainly been well protected by the dust jacket. There is a little toning to the head and foot of the spine aligning to where there is loss to the dust jacket and a little dust staining to the top and bottom edges but otherwise the boards are clean and the titles are bright. There is a little pushing to the top corners. Internally the book is generally very clean with only a hint of spotting to the endpapers and light toning to the uncut edges. The edition consisted of 150 copies; it was a student project, done while Richie attended Frank Wiggins Trade School in Los Angeles. The choice of a Carl Sandburg poem is significant, as Sandburg and Richie shared a longtime friendship with Los Angeles bookseller and publisher, Jake Zeitlin. This is one of the scarcest of early Sandburg editions. 1printed sheet printed on [2]pages folded laid into 1 printed folded sheet (wrapper) lightly finger soiled with small chip to rear wrap. Fuchs has lovingly inscribed this copy to Susan Foster, a long-time personal assistant to film and literary mega-agent Irving Paul Lazar, and later Frank Sinatra. The nature of Fuchs and Foster's acquaintance is unknown, though it seems safe to assume that they might have met during Fuchs' long tenure as a Hollywood scriptwriter. His inscription, "From one Brighton Beachcomber to another," also leaves open the possibility that the two had known each other growing up in Brooklyn.
