Seattle: The Mountaineers, 1981. First Edition 1st Printing. Hardcover. Fine/Fine. FIRST PRINTING of First Edition. Original blue boards, gilt lettering spine. Fine condition with no previous owner marks or writing on any pages, clean, tight bihnding, no foxing, like new. The dust jacket is in fine condition with no tears and no chips. This book measures 222mm tall x 135mm, and has 271 pages, 36 b/w photos, index. Welzenbach, superb climber, is credited with being first to use an ice piton, and invented modern route grading. He made many first ascents & climbs in the Bernese Alps. He died in 1934 on Nanga Parbat; Roberts, the author of this book, died at age 33 on Annapurna. PHOTOS ARE OF THE ACTUAL BOOK BEING OFFERED.
