About This Item

[No place]: Angelika Films, 1988. First edition thus. Italian film with English subtitles. Originally released in 1942 as two films, "Noi Vivi" and "Addio Kira," directed by Goffredo Alessandrini and starring Alida Valli, Rossano Brazzi, and Fosco Giachetti. After their release in Italy during World War II, the films were banned by the Fascist government. Lost and forgotten for decades, they were finally found and restored with Rand's involvement and released for the first time in the U.S. in 1986. This 1988 VHS double-cassette set in its original clamshell case also contains material that tells the story of making the films, their loss, and re-discovery through photographic memorabilia, 6 informational packets, and "Ayn Rand's 'We the Living': New Life in a Restored Film Version" by Michelle Marder Kamhi in "Aristo: The Journal of Esthetics" (whole issue, Vol. 4 No.4, Dec. 1988)--all of which are housed in a pocket inside the case. Glassine envelope holding photos and stapled 8.5 x 11" informational packets a little tanned on edges, otherwise altogether fine. Scarce to rare. INCLUDES PROMOTIONAL MATERIAL.
