Washington, DC: US Gov. Printing Office, 1925. Octavo. 176 pages, map in rear pocket, illustrated throughout with black and white photographic images, folding maps and plans. If the Reclamation Act of 1902 was the most important legislation on the environoment in the early 20th Century but it was only in the 1920's it determined that a comprehensive plan of flood control and water supply was required for the lower Colorado River. It was the single-minded efforts of Eugene C. LaRue whose remarkable investigations led to this major work on the history of the Colorado River's development. He included specific management of dams, reservoirs and canals as well as a plan to minimize water waste. His plan looked forward to the day when Glen Canyon would have a dam (a move later day environmentalist have come to lament). The key thing is this work was a major work on the issue of the lower Colorado River and the political and economic forces often went against the best geological information. Laid in is a letter from December 28, 1954 answering Mrs. Leisa Bronson of Sedona, Arizona from the office of Senator Goldwater sent via his Secretary Mrs. Helen M. Smith. In it she notes the senator is forwarding information of the hearings. Also laid in without identification but apparently a typed note from Mrs. Bronson suggesting Glen Canyon would be the most likely dam to be profitable. It is noted that President Eisenhower gave his blessing to the project. The note also notes the testimony of Howard Pyle. Bound in a modern black cloth, spine lettering gilt, endpapers re-newed, original orange printed wrappers bound in. A very good copy.
