About This Item
Ft. Lauderdale, FL, 2017. Artist's book, one of 10 copies, text and images designed as a board game with Spinner Board printed on stiff board, signed and numbered by the artist / author, Dorothy Krause, on the inside back sheet. Size: 10-3/8 x 12-7/8 x 1-1/2; instructions, game board, spinner board and game pieces housed in clear plastic suitcase with title in red and white letters with black boarders; inside lid of suitcase with image of first atomic bomb blast underlaying a printed definition of war - "armed conflict, prosecuted with military forces aiming to enforce the political will of the victor upon the defeated" and information on human aggression from prehistory to present. The Game Board resembles a checkerboard with squares which give instructions such as "no weapons found: look again" and "tour of duty extended: start over" and "peace negotiations begun: pray for success." The red and black checker-like pieces are "us" and "them." "The game never ends ... there are no winners, only losers. The WARZONE game boards and suitcase were printed at Roland DGA on the LEF-300, a flatbed printer with white and gloss inks. Unfortunately, the anti-war sentiments expressed herein have never been more needed nor truer. Combining satiric wit with somber reflection, the short text is powerful.
