About This Item
New Orleans, La.: Louisiana Printing Co. Press, N.d.. First Edition . Hardcover. Good/No Jacket. 8vo. 92 pages. Protected in mylar. No publication date, but circa 1912. The author is noted as the historian for the Stonewall Jackson Chapter of New Orleans, No. 1135 U.D.C. (1909-1911). The binding is in good solid condition, but has a small water stain on the upper right hand front corner and a large water stain on the lower right hand front corner. These water stains continue through out the text block of the book and are fairly light. Otherwise, internally, the book is clean. "The author has derived her data not alone from written history, but largely from the lips of those who were participants in that memorable struggle - men who had been comrades of Mumford, confreres of Benjamin, and survivors of the ill-fated Louisiana. Material for the sketches of social life were drawn from the reminiscences of war-time women, mostly members of the Chapter, and all are based upon incidents occurring in real life." A rare, hard to find copy of this book of Civil War reminiscences.
