New York: The Vanguard Press, 1931. First edition. 310pp. Octavo [21 cm] Bluish gray cloth covered boards with the title, author and publisher stamped in red ink on the spine, and the title stamped in large bold red ink on the front cover. Very good. The spine and areas of the covers are faded and discolored. Light rubbing to the extremities. The cloth at the spine ends is slightly frayed, and the underlying boards are peeking through at the bottom fore edge corners. There is a faint erased previous owner's name on the front pastedown. Browned pages. The dust jacket is in good condition only. Darkened. More so at the jacket's spine and along the folds. There are several closed tears in the edges. The longest closed tear measures 4 inches long. The edges also have numerous large chips and shorter closed tears. There is a loss from the top edge at the head of the jacket's spine, that is 3 inches wide by 1 inch deep. From the dust jacket- "Peace, Dr. Nearing explains, is merely a breathing spell between wars, and as soon as peace is established the ruling classes of the various nations begin to prepare for the next war. Just as a business organization attempts to expand and to capture new territory, so a nation attempts to enlarge its domain and to extend its economic sway.
