London : George Bell & Sons, 1908. 1st Edition 1st Printing. Hardcover. Good/No Jacket. 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall. A C Michael. First edition first printing dated 1908 in first state blue boards with gilt title decoration to upper board, Hardback grades as good. Book has numerous faults, boards have rubbing and light marking to the cover and gilt title. Softened or gently bumped corners. Front joint gently rubbed. Bump to bottom edge of upper board. Spine faded with bumped and rubbed ends. Lower board gently rubbed joint and fading to panel. Front hinge cracked with old tape repair, rear hinge Solid. Previous owners initials in pen to front pastedown. FEP missing. Tissue guard for frontispiece missing. Frontispiece present. Text block has toning to edges, top edge sl. dusty. Deckle edged on fore edge and lower edge. There are occasional scattered small spots to the text block, but otherwise clean with fairly crisp white pages.The binding is generally tight and square. All illustrations are present. Illustrations opposite pg 14 and pg 322 are loose but present, also pg 15 is loose. Good condition. Note we do not use stock images, the book pictured is the book described. A good example of this collectible Well's SF title. This the first edition from 1908, in the first printing state with the gilt title decoration. Recognised as a key Well's title, with reference to the future of air war, and the growing threat of Germany.
