Walking Across Egypt is a 1999 coming-of-age drama film shot in the state of Florida. The movie is based on a novel of the same name by author Clyde Edgerton. On Jan 16 2014, a reader said:
Edgerton captures the authentic voice of the southern mountains. In Mattie Rigsbee he has encapsulated everything lovely and everything maddening about old-timers in those mountains. Mattie believes literally in the Bible, and feels it is encouraging her to adopt a young man of 16 who is in the Juvenile Holding Area for stealing a car. Mattie is already 78, but feels a new burst of energy with this decision. Her middle-aged son and daughter are horrified, as are the members of her church at her having dealings with a young thief.
