About This Item

Hutchinson of London 1979 hardcover, 7½" x 9¼", with dust jacket Ours is an ex-library copy in transparent protective covering, with usual stamps, stickers, & barcode cut from endpaper. VERY GOOD book in VERY GOOD price-clipped dust jacket Profusely illustrated with over 100 pictures in black and white and colour, this book looks objectively at Wagner - the man, the revolutionary, the womanizer, and, most importantly, the musical genius. John Culshaw vividly recreates the life in which Wagner pursued success, luxury, and musical perfection with equal fervour (while intent of escaping his debts). The story of his eventful final years when he came to terms with his genius and launched his festival at Bayreuth complete the biographical section of the book. It is followed by the Wagner Repertory (stories of the operas).
