About This Item

New York: Farrar, Straus and Young, 1952. First American Edition. First Printing. Octavo; rough brown cloth over boards, quarterbound in teal cloth, with titles and designed stamped in black on spine; dustjacket; 186pp. Stamp of Edmund Grainger Productions on front endpaper, dated 1952, and likely from a production company involved in the making of the film; a Fine copy. Dustjacket is price-clipped, with $3.00 price rubber-stamped in red ink left of the clip; some light rubbing to extremities, a few closed tears, and a small chip to upper right corner of front panel with some attendant creasing; a bright, Very Good+ example. The American edition is notably uncommon in dustjacket. Basis for the superb 1953 French language film 'Le Salaire de la Peur,' directed by Henri-Georges Clouzot and starring Yves Montand and Charles Vanel.
