Rebound, contemporary half leather with bluse marbled boards, gilt ruling and titling to spine. A rare and very important book on the expedition led by T.E.L. Moore on the Brigg Plover in search of Sir John Franklin. The expedition, in which Hooper participated as a marine officer, was forced to winter in Providence-Bay, where Hooper could gather an enormous wealth of useful information on the Tuski. When the ship was free of ice, Hooper joined Pullen's boat expedition along the arctic north coast of America to the Mackenzie River and Cape Bathurst. In summer 1850 the expedition crossed the northenmost part of Canada and returned to England. - Henze II, 622/23. Description:
A Fine tight copy in a Fine bright unclipped dust jacket. Inscribed "To Chuck, Alan Shepard" on titlepage. On October 4, 1957, the Soviet Union launched Sputnik I, and the space race was born. Desperate to beat the Russians into space, NASA put together a crew of the nation's most daring test pilots: the seven men who were to lead America to the moon. The first into space was Alan Shepard; the last was Deke Slayton, whose irregular heartbeat kept him grounded until 1975. They spent the 1960s at the forefront of NASA's effort to conquer space, and Moon Shot is their inside account of what many call the twentieth century's greatest feat—landing humans on another world. Collaborating with NBC's veteran space reporter Jay Barbree, Shepard and Slayton narrate in gripping detail the story of America's space exploration from the time of Shepard's first flight until he and eleven others had walked on the moon.

London & New York: Chapman & Hall -- A.C. Armstrong and Son, 1889. 1st Edition . Hardcover. Very Good/No Jacket. Albert Pepin. TWO VOLUMES First Edition. Mixed publisher set with volume I being the London issue and volume II being the New York issue. Nearly identical light wear pattern to both volumes with exactly the same spine tone, suggests that this was a very early pairing, if not an original pairing by the publishers. The only difference in the London and New York volume is the publisher name stamped to base of spine and the addition of "New York: A.C. Armstrong And Son" printed on the title page below the "London: Chapman And Hall". In fact, the title page of volume II for the New York issue is a cancel (meaning that it was/is a separate sheet that has been glued to a stub at the title page, the UK title page having been excised and replaced with the New York page). Cancels for title pages for UK-USA joint publications were fairly common during the period when this… Read More

Description:
Indianapolis: Dog Ear Publishing, January 2013. Trade Paperback. Fine. Slight reading wear to corners, otherwise pristine. Not from a library. No remainder mark. Not clipped. Not damaged. Suitable for gifting. 163 pages. The 25 authors of this book were volunteers in the first Peace Corps rural community development project in Africa: Sierra Leone, 1965-67. They are also the first group to tell a collective story of Peace Corps volunteers, anywhere. The Peace Corps was in its infancy then, and memories of John Kennedy were strong among the young volunteers. Sierra Leone was also in its infancy in the first few years after independence, before military coups and tribal warfare became common. The authors forthrightly recount their feelings of loneliness and isolation, and their frightening experiences with secret societies and witchcraft, but their uniquely optimistic "can-do" American attitude brought most through a great life experience.

Description:
London: Longman, Hurst, Rees, Orme & Brown, 1823. 1st Edition . Hardcover. Good/No Jacket. 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall. pp: [viii]ix-xii [1]2-544. FIRST EDITION. Bound in brown half-leather over marbled boards, title in gilt within a red title piece. The first edition of the author's first book. William Wilson (1772-1849) inherited a substantial sum from an uncle, and decided to indulge his passion for travel. He travelled throughout Europe and The Middle East and wrote a series of books. This was his first, and it was the most popular, going through several editions. This is a good copy as all plates, including the frontispiece, have been excised. The boards show moderate wear, heavier at the spine ends. The front hinge is cracked. The text block is mainly clean with a few marks of unknown origin.

Octavo (8 3/4" x 5 1/2") issued in blue cloth with gilt lettering to spine and gilt sailing ship to front cover. Translated by Anthony Mango. Second Series, volumes 138 and 139. First edition.By the early sixteenth century the loosely knit kingdom of Georgia had disintegrated from the strong monarch of the middle ages to a number of small states and principalities. This internal disunity made the Georgians easy victims of the power politics of the neighboring Ottoman and Safavid empires, and by the end of the century the southward drive of the Russians intensified the struggle for military and diplomatic control over the whole of the Caucasian isthmus. As a result of this struggle seventeen embassies were exchanged between the Russian tsars and the Georgian kins ruling in Kakheti during the years 1564-1605. W E D Allen and Anthony… Read More
