The Faschler family, by and large, perished in the Holocaust, and the son, Eli, who was repatriated to Scotland made a vow to his parents to make sure that the family flourished again. Eva, Eli's bride, likewise was a refugee from Nazi Germany; both kept journals of their time, and, this book is based upon those journals; and how Eli is vow.
