Internally the front and rear hinges are cracked and the endpapers are age darkened else a clean, tight copy. Top edge gilt. vi + 278 pages. Fore and lower edges uncut. The sixteenth edition. The book, first published in 1881, was the first collection of Stevenson's essays and brought together essays previously published in the Cornhill Magazine. They promote a spirit of playfulness in defiance of both the hardships of human life and the restrictions imposed by bourgeois Philistinism. B2D. Hard Cover. Good TEG/No Jacket. 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall.
