Pages remain bright and clear with minimal tanning and foxing. Pen inscription to half title page. Thumb-marking present. Water staining to rear pastedown and free endpaper. Notable creasing to a number of pages throughout. Cracking to gutters, with exposed binding threads. Boards have moderate edge-wear with bumping to corners and rubbing to surfaces. Notable crushing to spine ends. Heavy tanning to spine and edges. Brown marks to rear board. Textblock is shaky. Book has a prominent forward lean.

Boston & New York: C. T. Brainard Three quarter maroon morocco leather with marbled boards. This is part of the the Edition de luxe of which there is only 1000 sets. The leather spine is slpit with a quarter inch missing from the top and a quarter inch strip missing from the sping for three inches at the front cover and spine. Top edge gilt other edges untrimmed. Numerous black and white illustrations. Internally in excellent, crisp, nearly unopened condition. Overall a reading copy.. Later. Three Quarter Morocco Leather. Poor. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. Hardcover.

There is some separation of the first few pages up to the Dedication page and again the back few pages are a bit separated (but all pages attached to the boards). Pages are tight; clean/unmarked with age browning. 798 pages. Illustrations by the author. Only print info stated is "1884" on bottom of title page. Given the age of the book, this book is probably in Goof to Very Good condiiton. Size: 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall
