About This Item

London: J M Dent and Sons Limited, 1969. An abridgment of the edition published in the U.S. by Doubleday & Co Inc 1968. This is the romantic life story of Robert Louis Stevenson and the talented and remarkable woman Fanny, who became his wife. She was ten years older than Stevenson, an American with a husband and two children when they met in France in 1876 and fell in love. A divorce ensued. Stevenson and Fanny married. This marriage became very controversial. Margaret Mackay narrates the extra ordinary story of that marriage. Fanny enraged many of Stevenson's friends, who included most of the literary world of Victorian England. A section of photographs, Bibliography and Index provided. An interesting read. A bright , sharp-cornered book in its photo illustrated dust jacket.. Abridged Edition. Hard Cover. Fine/Good Plus.
