About This Item
New Haven: Yale University Press, 1967. Hardcover. Foreword by Alexander O. Vietor. 4to. Orange marbled paper over boards with gilt spine lettering, pictorial price-clipped dust jacket. ix, 291pp. Illustrations (2 foldouts), line drawings. Near fine/very good. Faint jacket edgewear only. Quite attractive and tight fifth printing of this noted 1965 analysis, a hefty study of this still-disputed 15th century world map indicating Viking discovery of North America. Interestingly, front flyleaf of this copy bears an archival decorative-edged bookplate signed boldly in black ballpoint by Kenneth Nebenzahl (1927-2020), famed Chicago map dealer and expert whose well-known "Kenneth J. Nebenzahl, Jr., Lectures in the History of Cartography" debuted in 1966 with "Vinland Map" primary author Skelton's address.
