London: John Murray, 1880. Finely bound volume of Hallam's history of the United States. Bound in three quarters morocco with gilt tooling to the spine and red morocco spine label lettered in gilt in five compartments within raised bands, marbled endpapers, all edges marbled, gilt emblem to the front panel. From the library of I.H. Echalaz with a period gift inscription to him to the front free endpaper dated 1902. In near fine condition. English historian Henry Hallam was educated at Eton and Christ Church, Oxford, he practised as a barrister on the Oxford circuit for some years before turning to history. His major works include View of the State of Europe during the Middle Ages (1818), The Constitutional History of England (1827), and Introduction to the Literature of Europe, in the Fifteenth, Sixteenth and Seventeenth Centuries (1837).
