1507 1ed Castellesi De Vera Philosophia Duns Scotus post Incunable Philosophy

Adriano Castellesi was a 15th-century Italian author who is best remembered for his views of philosophy with regard to scripture. In his book 'De Vera Philosophia', Castellesi continually praises scripture as the 'true philosophy'. (Backus, p.500). While not his initial purpose, Castellesi inadvertently created a primer on the early Church Fathers – specifically Augustine, Ambrose, Jerome and Gregory I – and the basic elements of Christian faith (Backus). According to Tafuri, Castellesi's position is reminiscent of the doctrines of Duns Scotus and was written as an attack on metaphysics. (Gill, 24)

This exceedingly rare first edition of Castellesi was published in Bologna in 1507.

Pieter Harting was 19th-century Dutch scientist who is best remembered for his contributions to the development and use of the microscope and microscopy. He published what proved to be the greatest book on microscopy, titled simple 'The Microscope', which provided lessons on using the microscope as well as covering designs for lens improvements.
It should be noted that Harting was one of the earliest supporters of Charles Darwin's evolutionary theories, many of which were endorsed by Harting's microscope findings. In fact, according to Darwin scholar Eve-Marie Engels, Harting was "one of the most influential" of all 19th-century scientists and philosophers.

Dionysius Periegetes was an ancient Greek geographer believed to have lived sometime in the 2nd or 3rd-centuries. He is remembered primarily for his description of the known world, believed to be one of the earliest written world geographies. In the 12th-century, Byzantine historian Eustathius of Thessalonica wrote a commentary on Dionysius's 'Orbis Descriptio' who included numerous excerpts from other ancient Greek geographers and historians.
This 1688 Greek and Latin edition was collected and edited by William Hill who included numerous folding maps. Two of the maps are particularly desirable – the map of all of Europe and the map of Italy and the Greek Islands.

Jules Verne's adventure novels are some of the most popular and famous works of literature of all time. Known mostly for his works of science fiction, 'Voyages Extraordinaires' was Verne's largest collection of fantasy novels and stories. "Tribulations of a Chinaman in China", first published in 1879, discusses, in a satirical view, the British trading opium in China and is filled with illustrations depicting adventures, shipwrecks, and sea battles.

In addition to 'Tribulations', this volume is bound along with a first edition of "Les Cinq Cents Millions de la Begum", or 'The Begum's Fortune' – Verne's dystopian and pessimistic portrayal of developmental sciences.
