Prague: Orbis, 1940. Octavo (19 × 12.2 cm). Original printed boards; 223, [4] pp. In the original brown card slipcase. Tiny nick to spine; else very good or better. First edition of this collection of broadcast speeches by Emanuel Moravec (1893-1945), a Czech soldier, journalist, and a leading collaborator with the German Protectorate regime. Before WWII, Moravec had been a staunch patriot, who defended an alliance with France and the Soviet Union, and received the Bat'a Prize in 1937. Following the 1938 Munich Pact, however, Moravec turned sides and under Heydrich and Karl Hermann Frank he rose to prominence, ultimately serving as minister of education and furthering the goal of "Germanizing" Czech culture and schooling. His influence was so strong that the Czech Resistance at one point suggested him as an alternate target to Heydrich himself. He shot himself during the Prague Uprising to avoid being captured. KVK, OCLC show the copies at the German National Library, Berkeley, Duke, Harvard, NYPL, and Yale.
