First edition of this work on Czech modernist music by interwar musicologist Helfert (1886-1945), an early champion of the work of Leoš Janácek. Designed by Zdeněk Rossmann, for the Index publishing house in Olomouc, which also issued the eponymous modern art and architecture journal throughout the 1930s. With Rossmann's distinctly understated typographic design. Outside the Czech Republic, KVK and OCLC show copies at Newberry, Yale, and SLUB Dresden.
