Description:
Newark, Delaware.: The Press of Kells, 1929. Same year, published by Doubleday.. Hard cover. Good. No dust jacket. Reading copy: pages clean, spine separated. Pages clean.. 1 3 p.l., 48 p. Blue, green-speckled paper over boards, black cloth over spine. Good quality paper. Christian-based, "Jesus in khaki", and written by the son of a preacher raised in Scotland and London, emigrating to America after college, and somewhat accomplished with his writing by the outbreak of The Great War, Dawson wrote in his preface that the idea for the story was formed under shellfire at the Battle of the Somme. He had been sent forward as observation officer to set fire to a church, the tower of which was believed to house Germans.

Description:
London; Hutchinson & Co. (Publishers) Ltd, [1926]., 1926. Hard Cover. N.d. but circa 1926. Octavo, pp. 63. Publishers' black cloth with gilt titles to spine and upper board, and double border in blind to upper board. Endpapers slightly toned otherwise a clean crisp copy, both binding and contents. No annotation or inscriptions. Novel based upon the Author's musings on "What would Christ have thought of the Somme if He had been there in khaki?". Rare. At time of writing, COPAC locates just a single institutional copy at Oxford. Dawson (1882-1959), the Anglo-American novelist, joined the Canadian Army in 1916 and served for the duration of the Great War. This is likely the first edition but with no stated publication date we cannot be certain.
