Introduction by Dr. Theodor Reik, preface by George Jean Nathan, bibliography of One Hundred Titles and index. Dark red coloured endpages. Self embossed decorated black coloured cloth covered boards with gilt coloured titles to the back strip. Pink coloured tint to the top text block edge. Illustrated dustwrapper, being a gilt reproduction of the underlying embossing of the boards, with gilt and red coloured titles to the front panel and back strip. "An Unhurried View of Erotica at last fills the gap for a light-hearted work on erotica. Scholars have long needed a book that would list the great erotic works, describe their confidence, reproduce selected portions, recount the fascinating histories of their survival, and tell where the works could be consulted." – from rear panel blurb. Softening of the back strip edges with rubbing of the book corners. Age toning of the text block edges and pages. Light handling marks to the pages. Large brown stain on page 15 – please see photograph. Chipping of the dustwrapper corners and lower back strip edges with the top quarter inch of the back strip missing. Pieces missing from the top left-hand corner of the front panel and to the top left-hand corner of the rear panel – please see photograph. Creasing of the dustwrapper edges with small closed tears – with associated creasing. Rubbing of the book panels and creases with some chipping along the front edge of the back strip. White coloured stain to the front panel and there is fading of the back strip. A previous owner has supported some of the tears to the dustwrapper to the verso, with the tape still in sick to, and there are also stains present. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. Synopsis

An Unhurried View of Erotica was authored by Ralph Ginzburg and George Jean Nathan , with a foreword by Theodor Reik was published January 1, 1958. This rather scholarly-seeming book explores an ostensible undercurrent of pornography that runs throughout English literature from a manuscript by Leofric, Bishop of Exeter in 1070 through the outright pornographic works of the 1950s.   An Unhurried View examines specific examples of English erotic literature in an interpretive and explanatory context, and includes a bibliography of 100 titles.
