The story is set in France, 1805. Conan Doyle's recurring character Brigadier Gerard appears as a major character in this short novel, which deals with the return of an exiled French aristocrat. In a half morocco binding with marbled paper covered boards. Externally, sound with slight shelfwear and bumping to head and tail of spine. Front hinge tender and may detach in post, despite careful packing. Internally, binding loosening in places. Slight marginal age-toning and occasional foxing. Good Only
