Washington, 1913. unbound. very good(+). T.L.S. as Secretary of State, 4to. 1 page, Department of State, Washington, August 27, 1913, to Alexander Berger, with a rare reference to the Pancho Villa crisis, in part: "...Sam can start any time, everything is ready for him. He will not require a passport, although it might be well for him to secure on while he is in Washington so that he can run over to Russia some time if he desires to. I believe Russia and Turkey are about the only places in Europe where he would need a passport..." "So far as I know, I will be here when you pass through with Sam, but my movements are a little uncertain, owing to this Mexican trouble..." Very minor water staining with some lightness to the type print. However, the letter is boldly signed and very easy to read. Letters with just a hint of a reference to the Mexican Revolution are scarce. American orator and politician who was a three-time Democratic Party candidate for President of the United States and later, Secretary of State under Woodrow Wilson.
