About This Item

Chicago, IL: December 13, 1966., 1966.. Very good. - Two paragraphs typed on a 10-7/8 inch high by 8-1/2 inch wide sheet of Journal of the American Medical Association letterhead with King's name printed as Senior Editor at the top. Signed "Lester S King" above his typed name and "Book Review Editor". There is some light creasing to the right edge of the letter & there is a tiny chip to the left edge at one of the folds. The letter is stapled to a carbon copy of Foxe's letter. Folded twice for mailing. Very good. <p>King writes to Foxe who has submitted a book on skating for review. "Your little book on skating is indeed a gem. But its relevance to medicine is, I am afraid, rather remote. And since we do not have room for even half of all the medical books we receive, I am afraid we cannot be justified in reviewing it in our pages."<p>Freudian psychiatrist and expert on criminology Arthur N. Foxe was an avid collector of skating books. He wrote books on skating and also a bibliography of skating books.<p>Pathologist, historian and author Lester S. King [d. 2002] was a graduate of Harvard Medical School. He was diplomate of the American Board of Pathology and was on the faculty of the University of Illinois and the University of Chicago. He was a senior editor of the Journal of the American Medical Association and served a term as president of the American Association for the History of Medicine.
