Nettleinghame writes to the Pond Lecture Bureau in New York City at the suggestion of the National Geographic Society. Since he comes into contact with scores of American visitors to his home village who suggest he should lecture in America on Polperro or on Cornwall in general, he asks whether it could be made financially worth his while to travel to America for this purpose. Pond replies that Cornwall could be the subject of a very interesting lecture, but that in view of the many lecturers visiting America, it would be necessary to find a lecturer who already has a following. "I think it would be very poor business to bring to this country a man unknown here to speak on a subject of this nature."
Lieutenant F. T. Nettleinghame was the compiler of "Tommy's Tunes. A comprehensive collection of soldiers' songs, marching melodies, rude rhymes, and popular parodies, composed, collected and arranged...by F. T. Nettleinghame, etc", published London: Erskine Macdonald, 1917. He was also the author of "Polperro Proverbs & Others", Polperro Press, 1926.
