London: A. Bettesworth, J. Pemberton, and E. Symon, 1728. A prior owner's plate at the front fixed endpaper shows the arms of the Cholmondeley family quartered with another, then the name of Nathan Cholmley, Esquire; a later plate gives the name of John W. McReynolds, a Dallas oil tycoon. The (original) endpapers are both splitting with cord showing and bear some foxing, intruding only minimally into the bulk of the page block. The pages remain otherwise bright, the binding tight with full (tan tending to olive) leather still showing thin lines of gold decoration around both boards and along the raised bands of the spine; there is one deep scar on the front board, dark spotting at upper left and at right front with a few additional dark droplet marks on the rear, darkening and finish cracking along the spine, and surface scuffing along with inward turns at the free corners, a chip at the spine head, and wear to the board at two free corners; nonetheless, the tooled design around the board edges remains visible, and the leather is supple enough for handling. [viii], 308pp.. 5th Edition. Calfskin. Good.
