About This Item

Philadelphia: [Philadelphia Commercial Museum], 1900. Hardcover. Two gelatin silver photographs, titled "Cocoanut Plantation-Ceylon" and "Cacao Tree in Fruit-Trinidad", each 9 x 7.25 inches mounted on 12 x 9.75 cardboard boards with descriptive text on back. Cardboard lightly worn, both have stickers on back else very good condition. Part of a larger set of photographs prepared by the Philadelphia Commercial Museum showing the production of raw goods for manufacturing around the world. The Commercial Museum was founded in 1897 and "was the foremost source of international trade knowledge for American manufacturers at the turn of the twentieth century" Besides manufacturers, the museum's main visitors were school children, and these photographs were probably prepared for use on field trips or in classrooms. Only 1 copy found in OCLC as of 4/2020, which gives date of 1920.
