London: Constable & Co. Fine/Very Good. 1935. First Edition, First Printing. Hard Cover. 7.5" x 5" Crown Octavo; (i-viii), ix-xiii, (xiv-xvi), 1-301, (302); (1-2), 3-9, (10-12), 13-157, (158-160), 161-164, (165 - 166), (i-ii), 1-286, (287-288) plus 32pp catalogue. Red, cloth-covered boards with black lettering on the spine, blue printer's stain to the top edge, 1935 stated at the foot of the title page. Subtitled "A London Trilogy" this book contains three linked stories: The Midnight Bell, Bob; The Siege of Pleasure, Jenny; The Plains of Cement, Ella. Introduction by J. B. Priestley. No faults for the book, no inscriptions; this is the best copy of this book we have seen. The dust jacket is not price-clipped, has minor wear only and a small damp mark on the spine; the top and bottom of the spine have been guarded by rice paper and paste on the reverse (a reversible process) because the ends were becoming brittle, protected by a clear, removable cover. Few copies of the first edition have survived with their original dust jacket and rarely come to market, particularly in this condition. Weysprings Books is a Member of: the IOBA and PBFA, and subscribes to the Associations' Codes of Ethics. .

Description:
London: W. Collins Sons & Co. Ltd.. Inscribed by the author as follows; " Xmas 1927/To Aunt Lilla with the author's love - /Phyllis". No doubt it was Aunt Lilla who lovingly clipped out the book review and the author's photograph from the newspaper and pasted them to the front pastedown and front free endpaper (beneath the dedication) respectively. This book is rare in itself and rarer still with such a unique inscription. The book has yet to experience the restorer's art. It has blue covers with red lettering and border on the front, red lettering on the spine. The front external joint is cracking at the bottom but is still sound; the spine has torn at the top joints by 3cms and 2cms but is sound and all there, and there are some white marks on the covers. Minor rubbing at the corners. Now protected by a removeable jacket. Weysprings Books is a Member of: the IOBA and PBFA, and subscribes to the Associations' Codes of Ethics. . Good. Hardcover. First Edition. 1927.

New York, Grove Press, 2022, trade paperback, 272 pp, Advance Uncorrected Proof (ARC), New. Straight, tight and clean with no wear or markings in bright, pictorial card covers, no dustjacket as issued. The pieces in this collection, written between 1956 and 1961 and including short fiction, a radio play, and a stunning early novel, offer startling insights into Cohens imagination and creative process. Cohen explores themes that would permeate his later work, from shame and unworthiness to sexual desire in all its sacred and profane dimensions to longing, whether for love, family, freedom, or transcendence.
