About This Item

NY: Harcourt, Brace and Comany, 1920. 1st Edition . Hardcover. Very Good. Large 8vo. Unpaginated. First edition of 2000 copies, "of which 1200 are for sale in Great Britain and 800 in the U.S.A." Green papered boards with quarter cloth backing and paper spine label. Light wear to corners, with boards just peeking through the paper. One small abrasion to front panel. Spine shows dulling/darkening, though spine label remains complete and legible. Curiously, the title page has been professionally tipped onto the stub of a removed leaf, perhaps marking this as a later state of the first edition. Portrait subjects include Joseph Conrad, John Galsworthy, Andre Gide, Thomas Hardy, and H.G. Wells.
