About This Item
Philadelphia: J.B. Lippincott Company, 1903. Hardcover. 8vo. Light blue cloth with dark blue lettering and gilt medallion. 421pp. Top edge gilt. Frontispiece, full-page plates, partly-color map. Good plus. Mild binding edgewear, with spine faintly sunned and faint overall soiling; inoffensive dampstain at top page edges; 1903 nonauthorial gift inscription on front flyleaf. A tight and decent first edition. Noted scholar E.B. Long wasn't a fan, complaining that "One-third of this superficial study treats of causation; the remainer is too pro-Southern to be accepted at face value." NEVINS II, 19.
