New York: Alfred A. Knopf, 1964. Hardcover. Translation by Gerard Hopkins. Small 8vo. Green cloth with gilt spine lettering, pictorial dust jacket. 421pp. Very good/good plus. Jacket has large chip at tail of spine and a bit of roughness to flaps. Tight and fairly nice fourth printing (first published 1951) in attractive jacket of the famed French philosopher's fiction -- third in the "Roads to Freedom" quartette of Existentialist novels. Discreet ex-library, with very few markings save small inkstamp at title page bottom and attractive "Gift of" bookplate on each pastedown.
Synopsis
Troubled Sleep (or La mort dans l'âme, in the original French) is a 1949 novel by Jean-Paul Sartre. The book was originally translated as Iron in the Soul. It is the third part in the trilogy Les chemins de la liberté (The Roads to Freedom).
