Bischoff, Ilse. Tales 204p. with an Introduction By Burton Rascoe, with 10 rich full page illustrations and many in text variations by Ilse M. Bischoff. The Albanian fairy tales and folk tales are patriarchal but the women who appear in this work are subtle and find power in their use of sexuality. The fact that both the people and language of Albania are about as obscure as those of any country on earth is the only element of definite economic value possessed by this collection: that is, if one leaves out of account the expensive binding, and a number of excellent wood cuts by Ilse M. Bischoff. The Albanian version of the Cinderella tale is found here also. The concept as related to Shakespeare's Hamlet and Othello is also noted. Bound in black pictorial gilt cloth, spine gilt. A very nice copy in somewhat chipped and edge worn pictorial dust jacket.
