[xii]+248, 8 plates (2 folding), the title page printed in red & black, appendices; demy 8vo; red cloth, spine lettered and ruled in gilt, upper board decorated in blind, fore-corners bruised; price-clipped dust wrapper, faintly soiled, edges lightly rubbed and split, with a couple of small chips; outer leaves lightly offset, bottom fore-corner of several leaves faintly creased; William Hodge & Company, Limited, Edinburgh, 1952. First edition. Notable British Trials series. *'In 1902 the barque Veronica set sail with a mixed crew from Ship Island in the Gulf of Mexico bound for Monte Video on what proved to be her last voyage. An extraordinary outbreak of mutiny and murder occurred, resulting in the deaths of all but five of the thirteen persons on board, the ship was set on fire and abandoned, and the mutineers, taking to the life-boat, landed on the small island of Cajueira Tutoia in North Brazil on Christmas Day' [wrapper blurb].
