About This Item

New York, Oxford University Press, 1985, hardcover, vi-222 pp, First Edition, First Printing by numberline, Very Good in Very Good dustjacket. Straight, tight and clean with no markings, small dampstain to heel of spine extending to endpapers not affecting text. Dustjacket unclipped bearing original price, slight spine-end bumps, tiny nicks to rear panel, faint evidence of dampstain to heel of spine, in new Brodart sleeve. Larson shows how public attitudes toward the teaching of evolution in public schools have changed little since the 1920s and why legislators and the judiciary have more often sided with prevailing public sentiment and avoided ruling on the scientific merits of either side. Appended: Conclusion, Appendix containing bibliographic data for multiple-edition, high-school, life-science textbooks published between 1959 and 1920 and contained in the Library of Congress, Notes, Bibliographic Note, Index. ISBN 9780195036664
