About This Item
First edition hardcover with dust jacket, published by Dutton, 1972. The dust jacket is intact and is not price clipped. Original price of $17.50 appears on the lower corner of the front flap. The jacket had been protected by a clear, removable, library quality cover, so there is no wear to the jacket. However, it had been taped to the boards with transparent tape, so there are residue marks from the adhesive on the boards, both front and back, each one is about 1/2 inch wide and 1/2 inch tall. 247 pages, with Glossary, Bibliography, and Index. The former owner's bookplate is pasted to the inside of the front board. Bookplate measures 3" X 4". Wheat colored cloth covered boards with sewn binding. The text is clean, the binding is tight and square. No writing on the text, this is not a remainder, not a library copy. Some age tanning dots to the edge of the text block primarily to the top edge, and some dots to the inside of the cover boards on the paste down pages. A classic of natural history and travel writing, with superb photographs by Eliot Porter. We follow their journey from the Nile through Sudan and Tanzania, onward to Lake Rudolf on the border of Kenya. 10" X 11-1/4, a very large book, this will be mailed out in a sturdy box!
