Sabin 76707. Lande 776.cf. Waterston p29. An American in search of truth. Written by anAmerican Quaker from Philadelphia who has nothing good to say abouteither the French or the British; the editor, for his part, haslittle good to say about the author. "The Editor of this LondonJournal has preferred to allow Mr. Sansom to speak for himself inhis own words. that, as a specimen of Americanisms, used by a manof good education, the work would be a greater curiosity to thoseEnglish readers, who are not aware of the deterioration which thelanguage has suffered in the United States." First published inNew York, 1817, this second edition was published in Britain. Itdeletes anti-British chapters and Sansom's enumeration of "palpablyerroneous reports" by Bouchette and others. (Waterson). Contains areport of the Beaver.
